Game of the Generals

Privacy

What Salpakan Online keeps about you, why, and how to have it removed. You can play as a guest without giving us anything but an optional name.

Playing as a guest

You do not need an account. If you choose a name, it is shown to the other people in your game room. Your moves, the chat, and the names used in a room are stored on our server for as long as the room exists, because the game cannot run without them. Your browser also keeps your chosen name and a seat token, so a refresh returns you to your seat.

Signing in with Google or Discord

Signing in is optional. It lets you earn a rating and appear on the leaderboard. When you sign in we receive from Google or Discord:

  • a unique identifier for your account with them, which we use to recognise you next time;
  • your display name; and
  • a link to your profile picture, if you have one.

We do not ask for your email address and we do not keep the access token the provider gives us; it is used once to read the details above and then discarded. We never post anything to your account.

What we store about your account

Your identifier from the provider, your display name, your picture link, when the account was created, and your rating and win, loss and draw record. Signing in sets a cookie that keeps you signed in for 30 days; it is not readable by scripts on the page. A second short-lived cookie exists for up to 10 minutes while you sign in and is removed afterwards.

What other people can see

Your display name and a small check mark are shown to the other players in your games. Once you have played enough rated games, your display name, picture, rating and record appear on the public leaderboard. Rooms, chat and the leaderboard are visible to anyone who has the link or visits the page.

Who handles the data

Google or Discord, only to sign you in. Our hosting and database providers store and process the data above on our behalf so the game can run. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Your choices

  • Play as a guest, or sign out at any time.
  • Choose the name other people see. It starts as the name from Google or Discord, and you can change it any time from the home page (Change name under your name), so you do not have to show your real name.
  • Delete your account from the home page while you are signed in (the Delete account button under your name). This removes your account, rating, record and leaderboard entry straight away, and signs you out everywhere. A room you played in may keep your display name in its chat history until that room is deleted.
  • Remove the sign-in permission for this app from your Google or Discord account settings.
